From the Internet of Things to Cloud Computing, Authors Adding Hundreds of Research Papers Daily to Drive Global Innovation

PISCATAWAY, N.J., 18 August 2016 – The IEEE Xplore digital library, one of the world’s largest collections of technical literature in engineering, computer science and related technologies, recently reached a milestone with a total of over four million documents now available in its vast repository.

Since its launch in 2000 with an initial collection of 500,000 documents, IEEE Xplore has experienced significant growth each year, resulting in this most recent milestone. This growth is a direct result of the rapid pace of today’s technology innovations and the fact that authors from academia and industry from all corners of the world increasingly choose IEEE to publish their research.

“As we celebrate this important milestone for IEEE Xplore, we would like to thank our authors, editors, reviewers, volunteers, staff, readers and subscribers for making this achievement possible,” said Michael Forster, Managing Director, IEEE Publications. “The technology landscape is constantly evolving and, thanks to these critical contributions, so are IEEE publications. IEEE Xplore’s three million users depend on IEEE to keep up to date with the latest groundbreaking research. The most popular articles downloaded from IEEE Xplore reads like a list of the hottest trends that are shaping the technological landscape today such as IoT, 5G wireless, cloud computing, autonomous vehicles, big data, virtual reality, renewable energy and more. Each year IEEE publishes leading edge new content in these areas to help disseminate the flood of new ideas.”

“IEEE believes an important part of its mission is to make its scholarly articles more widely available to readers worldwide,” added Karen Hawkins, Chief Marketing Officer, IEEE. “With that mission in mind, IEEE now offers a number of open access publications. In addition to fully open titles such as IEEE Access, IEEE Photonics Journal, and several others, all of our journals offer an open-access option. IEEE Xplore is also increasingly becoming the technology platform of choice worldwide for more than just IEEE information,” says Hawkins. “IEEE has developed publisher partnerships to enable users to find other relevant high quality content within IEEE Xplore to help fulfill their needs.”

The IEEE Xplore online collection includes content from more than 180 IEEE journals and magazines, over 1,500 annual conferences, over 1,300 active technology standards, 400 elearning courses and 2,000 ebooks.
