At IEEE, we realize the impact that the COVID-19 outbreak is having on all subscribers and users of the IEEE Xplore Digital Library. IEEE is here to support you, making certain that an IEEE subscription continues to be accessible to all users so they can continue to work regardless of location. If your organization has an institutional subscription to IEEE Xplore and you need to work remotely due to school and workplace closures, you can still access IEEE Xplore and continue your work and research while offsite.

If your organization has an institutional subscription and you are having access issues when working remotely, we suggest the following steps:

1. We recommend that you first contact your organization’s librarian or administrator to find out the best way to access subscribed resources. Your librarian can review IEEE’s Account Management and Authentication Options and resources, which provide guidance on managing all authentication options for remote users.

2. Contact IEEE for help. If you cannot contact your librarian, please fill out our online help form that requests all the information we need to successfully get you back online.

3. Or you may wish to review the following tips and authentication options for remote users:

  • Corporate Single Sign-On: If your corporation has enabled corporate single sign-on, you may be able to login via your email address or by searching or browsing for your organization’s name from the list of subscribing organizations. Please visit https://ieeexplore.ieee.org and click on “Institutional Sign-In” at the top. Depending on your account set-up, you may be able to either sign in with your email address or select your organization name from the list, and then just follow the instructions to access your subscription.
  • Shibboleth/OpenAthens: If your academic institution has enabled Shibboleth or OpenAthens authentication, please visit https://ieeexplore.ieee.org and click on “Institutional Sign-In” at the top. Click on the Shibboleth/OpenAthens link on the right, select your organization name from the list and follow the instructions.
  • IP authentication: If you can normally access your organization’s IEEE Xplore subscription seamlessly while on site, your organization may have IP address authentication enabled. If so, you can try logging into your campus network using a university network ID via EZ Proxy or your corporate VPN to first authenticate. Once authenticated through your campus or corporate network, visit https://ieeexplore.ieee.org and try accessing your subscription. Your university or organization name will appear at the top of the IEEE Xplore home page once you are successfully logged in.
  • Remote Access via Personal IEEE Xplore Account: Newly enhanced and streamlined! If the Remote Access feature is enabled for your organization, this may be another login option. To use the IEEE Xplore Remote Access feature, you must have previously paired your device while IP-authenticated on-campus. After pairing, you can use your personal account to access your subscription for 90 days. If this was previously enabled, you can simply go to My Settings > Remote Access in the navigation bar. There you will be prompted to sign with your personal IEEE Xplore account. Once signed in, you have now established access. The following video reviews the remote access set-up process to pair a device with your university's subscription. View video
  • NEW! Remote Access via Google Scholar CASA: Google CASA (Campus Activated Subscriber Access) is a new option now available to IEEE Xplore subscribers that improves the authentication for off-campus users of Google Scholar. Google CASA is free and is automatically enabled for all customers that participate in Google Scholar Subscriber Links program. Learn more
