A Growing Portfolio of IEEE Publications in Emerging Technologies, New OA Authorship Opportunities, and Expanded Content Partnerships Have Fueled Continued Growth of the IEEE Xplore Digital Library
As IEEE celebrates a new milestone—eclipsing seven million total documents hosted in the IEEE Xplore Digital Library—we take a moment to thank our many authors, members, volunteers, and subscribers for making this moment possible and reflect on how IEEE Xplore has evolved to support the needs of users all over the world.
The content growth only tells part of the story as to why so many authors, researchers, and users rely on IEEE Xplore more than ever before:
- The technology landscape is constantly evolving and so are IEEE publications. IEEE is continually publishing new research and developing new publications and conferences to help users keep up to date with the latest technical developments that shape the world in topics such as AI, machine learning, blockchain, IoT, 5G/6G, EVs, NLP, renewable energy, semiconductors, and many more. In fact, IEEE has published an average of over 300,000 total new documents per year over the past several years.
- The rapid surge of advances in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in recent years has impacted a wide range of fields through faster processing, improved natural language understanding, and enhanced image and video generation. As a leading authority in AI and Machine Learning, IEEE has been at the forefront of these fast-moving technologies in publishing the latest breakthroughs in the field. IEEE has several of the top-cited journals in AI, more patent citations in AI technologies than any other publisher and is now an industry leader in AI & Ethics standards and certification. Overall, IEEE has published more than 500,000 articles related to AI technologies over the past five years.
- IEEE continues to provide more options to support the needs of all authors — those who publish in traditional subscription journals or those who prefer to publish in open access journals. IEEE now offers approximately 30 fully open access journals and 180 hybrid journals spanning a wide range of technologies, offering more options than ever for authors. With a growing number of options now available to authors, IEEE has published over 150,000 open access articles in IEEE Xplore.
- IEEE has also continued to expand its publisher partnerships to enable users to find other relevant high-quality content within IEEE Xplore to help fulfill their needs — now offering over 350,000 documents from other leading publishers and hosting more than 8,000 eBooks titles in a wide range of technologies.
- Since its inception, IEEE Xplore has introduced a continuous ongoing cycle of enhancements to make the research process faster and easier with new tools such as such as Image Search to help users discover important new research through visuals, an enhanced API capability for data analysis, plus convenient personalization and alerting tools to help users easily stay up-to-date on all of the latest advances. In addition, IEEE is also developing AI-powered research tools to help researchers deepen understanding, quickly assimilate new ideas, and accelerate research efforts.
